Women’s Guild

The Women’s Guild is the local chapter of The Antiochian Women’s organization, which was formed in 1973 by His Eminence Metropolitan PHILIP of Thrice-Blessed. Every woman who is baptized and chrismated into the faith is an Antiochian Woman.

The Women’s Guild is a vital part of the ministry in the life of the Church. Our main function is to help wherever we are needed, whether it is hosting a coffee hour, conducting a fundraiser, or reaching out to the community to help those who are in need. The motto of the Antiochian Women is “A Sisterhood Serving Christ Through Serving Others.” .

Activities:

Volunteering: To serve Christ through serving others, we have taken on several philanthropic projects to help those far and near. During the Advent season, we collect hats, gloves, scarves, and socks and donate these items to the children and women of Oasis ~ A Haven for Women and Children in Paterson, New Jersey. We also held a Baby Shower for the babies and young children of Oasis, as well. During the Lenten season, we collected school supplies for the IOCC (International Orthodox Christian Charities) that distributes the supplies to children who are living in poverty and war around the world so they may have the necessary tools to get a basic education. We make yearly donations to the Children’s Relief Fund to help support a child living in Lebanon and to the Joan Allen Scholarship Fund to help graduating high school seniors entering college. Last spring, we held an Indoor Yard Sale and were able make a substantial donation to our building fund.  We have also taken on a Tricky Tray fundraiser, which is held every other year during the month of March. We celebrate Women’s Month by taking part in the Liturgy throughout the month of March.  Our church Gift Shop is run by the Women’s Guild offering religious, as well as non-religious items for sale.

Social events: We also bond with each other as a sisterhood and hold fun activities throughout the year. We go out for dinner in January to celebrate Christmas and the New Year. For February, we hold our annual book night discussion, which is enjoyed by all who attend. In June we go to a local teahouse, sit back, drink tea and eat scones, and enjoy each other’s company.

When do we meet?  Meetings are held either on the second Thursday of the month at 7:30 PM or the second Sunday during coffee hour after church. Check the church bulletin or website for the schedule of meetings and for our activities throughout the year.
